MEET THE NATIONAL POETRY TEAMS...
APPLES AND SNAKES
Spoken word poetry pioneers Apples and Snakes wowed the crowds with their high energy, politically charged performances across the Newcastle metro including Sky Hawkin's powerful poem 'Welcome to the Job Centre' and former SLAM champion Ellen Moran's poignant poem about housing crises among the elderly. Apples and Snakes was started by a group of poets in 1982 and has nurtured talents such as Billy Bragg, Jackie Kay, Lemn Sissay, Malika Booker, Charlie Dark, Polarbear, Kate Tempest and Benjamin Zephaniah.
