We're delighted to see recent PBS Wild Card Choice Vertigo & Ghost by Fiona Benson is on the Rathbone's Folio Prize shortlist 2020 which was announced in London last night. Fiona Benson's Vertigo & Ghost which was awarded the 2019 Forward Prize for Best Collection's speaks to the #MeToo movement with a bold evocation of Zeus. The full shortlist includes fiction writer Zadie Smith, for her first collection of short stories, Ben Lerner, James Lasdun, Valeria Luiselli, as well as non-fiction from journalist and writer Azadeh Moaveni, Laura Cumming and debut writer Sinéad Gleeson. The list showcases work from across the globe from an American, an Iranian-American, an Irishwoman and a Mexican, alongside four British authors, with three novels, three works of non-fiction, a poetry and a short story collection now in the running for the £30,000 prize. This year's judges included the poet Paul Farley, whose latest book The Mizzy was reviewed in our recent Winter Bulletin. Last year's Rathbone Folio Prize winner was Raymond Antrobus' The Perseverance which we're proud to say our selectors spotted first.
