The Tara Theatre in London (Address 356 Garratt Lane, Earlsfield, London, SW18) will be hosting exciting poetry events in the month of June. On this Friday, the 1st of June, former poet laureate Sir Andrew Motion will be launching his new book Essex Clay. Sir Andrew Motion’s prose memoir, In the Blood (2006), was widely acclaimed, praised as ‘an act of magical retrieval’ (Daily Telegraph) and ‘a hymn to familial love’ (Independent). Now, having left UK shores and the bounds of his laureateship, Motion looks back once more to recreate a stunning biographical sequel – but this time, in verse. The event will start at 7.30pm and include a Q&A and book signing, for the price of £14.50. You can find out more here.
Later in the month, on Wednesdy 30th June, our PBS Summer Recommended poet Tishani Doshi will be performing poetry from Girls are Coming Out of the Woods. Tishani comes to Tara straight from the Hay Festival, where her book will be launched, for this special event with Kamila Shamsie. The event also starts at 7.30pm and tickets cost £10.
